Should i go with the markarth guards

If Madanach does not complete his dialogue before leaving the mine, after leaving the mine, Madanach and his men, as well as Thonar and his guard, will just stand outside and do nothing.

Killing Thonar completes the quest and initiates the fight but incurs the 1, bounty in Markarth. The bounty can be avoided by killing the last witness the guard or making other people kill Thonar by casting a strong enough fury or frenzy effect on them. After completing the quest, first helping Madanach to get the armor and then later turning on him by helping the guards kill him to also get the ring from Thonar, Uraccens dead body may be laying along the path just before the entrance to Druadach Redoubt.

PS3 Sometimes, when the quest is completed by killing the prisoners, there will be three guards standing outside and no one to give the Silver-Blood Family Ring. Update: to fix this reload to a point before talking to Talnor in the Treasury house and make sure that Talnor is not attacked by the Dragonborn during the battle.

However, when the gear back is returned, the item, while still appearing in the favorites, will not appear in the inventory even under the favorites section in the inventory. The only way to equip or remove this item is by pressing up on the d-pad. No fix. Upon exiting the prison, Thonar may be hostile. He is marked essential and cannot be killed, therefore the battle will never end.

Casting Calm on him will work in the short term, long enough to complete the quest and get the ring. If Calm cannot be cast on him, just run out of the town, exit combat, fast travel to some place far away then travel back to Markarth. Head to the exit of the Cidhna Mine door left to the Understone Keep 's door and Thonar will be waiting there, not hostile anymore.

He will start conversation and the quest can be finished. PC PS3 Skipping the dialogue where the guard says "no one" with enter, the guards will draw, the Dragonborn will be transported to the prison, and the Orc lady will attack. Possible fix: Make sure there is no bounty when sent to the prison. If in Cidha Mines as a prisoner before, do not kill Grisvar. If so, when Madanach says to kill him, he will not be there and there is no dialogue to tell Madanach he is already dead.

PC If Madanach and the Forsworn are killed after receiving the reward armor and then the ring is received from Thonar, the quest registers as the Forsworn wreaking havoc in Markarth and killing the townspeople, causing passing citizens to scold the Dragonborn for helping the Forsworn break out. All of the Dragonborn's items can be given to a follower before getting arrested to have gear while in the prison.

Borkul the Beast can be looted, but he will not have the key to the door. This will make it impossible to do the quest. Even after killing the guards the follower will stay in position by the shrine.

They can still trade items, but even after parting ways they may still remain there indefinitely. PC Sprinting past the Dwemer spheres may cause them to follow outside into Markarth. This can be a big problem if choosing to kill Madanach, as Thonar will force a dialog tree on exiting the ruins. The Spheres can kill the Dragonborn while they are stuck in dialogue.

If this happens, load the autosave and skip through the dialog as fast as possible and get as far away from the spheres as possible.

Thonar will probably be killed before the spheres are subdued by the guards, and his corpse will be able to be looted with no consequences. PS3 Sometimes after killing the guards and being sent to Cidhna Mine, it will automatically kill the Dragonborn, regardless of armor rating, health, or stamina. If the quest "The Forsworn Conspiracy" is nearly completed except for the final objective to return to the shrine, completing " Season Unending " will finish the Forsworn quest and prevent "No One Escapes Chidna Mine" from starting.

The guards will be gone if the Dragonborn returns to the Shrine to Talos. This may have something to do with Markarth changing sides during the "Season Unending" negotiations. However, completing the Civil War questline in favor of the Imperials should fix this and allow the quest to begin normally.

After talking to him, they will go out to hear his plan. However, he does not announce it and the quest will not continue. Solution: Killing Thonar will skip the dialogue and progress the escape of the Forsworn.

This will however count as siding with the Forsworn and may receive a 40 gold bounty. The bounty should disappear within a few seconds as Thonar is the only witness to his own murder.

PC After killing Madanach and escaping the mine, Thonar may become hostile for no reason, giving no dialogue options and therefore no end to the quest. Reloading will not work. PC Fix Using the console, click on Thonar and type disable then enable. He should become friendly and will continue his dialogue as normal. Should he still become hostile after respawning, type tcl in the console to fly above him, then repeat the same steps.

The automatic conversation and thus quest completion should occur before he spots the player. Since he will still become hostile, once dialogue is complete, fly to a safe place, type tcl again, then fast travel out of Markarth.

This will reset him and make him friendly again. Waiting for three days should allow you to then exit the ruins and continue the quest as normal. Pick the lock and go back into the mine, then walk back outside, and he will give the items. A previous save from before the quest starts may be reloaded, but the Dragonborn may be forced to never get arrested when in The Reach. While walking through the open market in Markarth , a woman named Margret is viciously attacked while buying jewelry.

Her attacker, a Breton witchblade named Weylin , will shout a rallying: " The Reach belongs to the Forsworn! If you do not step in, the guards will kill Weylin, who defiantly exclaims, "I die for my people. If you ask about the crime and the Forsworn, they tell you that the Forsworn are nothing but a bunch of madmen, and to mind your own business.

If you search Margret's body, take the key to her room for use later in the quest, although you will be able to acquire it later on from the Silver-Blood Inn innkeeper. It is possible to save Margret from Weylin if you're fast enough. If you do save her, she rewards you with the pendant she just purchased.

Preventing the murder will affect the course of the quest; see notes below. Shortly after the scene in the marketplace, a Breton citizen named Eltrys will approach you and ask if you saw what happened. You can chat with him for a bit about the assault, but then he will suddenly say, "Oh, I think you dropped this.

Some kind of note. Looks important. The note tells you to meet him at the Shrine of Talos. You can ask him how to find the shrine, and while he is still elusive, he will say: "Huh. Not sure. I don't worship Talos, myself. I think I heard someone mention it was underneath the Temple of Dibella , in the big crag in the center of the city. Travel to the shrine underneath the Temple of Dibella. To get there, climb the stairs at the north corner of the marketplace, follow the bridge to the left, then take the path to the left and you should see the door.

Descend into the temple and speak to Eltrys, who has been looking for answers about the Forsworn attacks that have been happening in the city, ever since his father was killed by the Forsworn and that he has been trying his whole life to find out why, and why the guards do nothing about it.

He pleads for your help; find out why Weylin attacked Margret and who is behind all of this. He will pay you for any information you can bring. She apparently rented the nicest room in the inn, which is down the hall to the left of the entrance. If you did not obtain the key to Margret's room from her corpse earlier, you can receive it through dialogue with Kleppr, steal it from behind the bar or even just simply take it freely , or just pick the lock to her door. Searching the end table in her room will yield Margret's journal.

After reading her journal, you learn that she probably wasn't just a casual jewelry shopper, and that she has been gathering information about Thonar Silver-Blood. If Margret is alive, she will be sitting by the fire at the inn or standing out in the marketplace.

You can persuade her to divulge her real purpose in Markarth. She was hoping to procure the deed to Cidhna Mine for the Imperials. She is also sure that Thonar Silver-Blood arranged for her murder. After leaving the inn with your information about Margret, a Markarth City guard will try to warn you off your investigations.

You can report back to Eltrys with your information about Margret for a leveled gold reward, or continue researching Weylin and Thonar before going back to Eltrys. In your investigations thus far, you have learned that Weylin worked as a smelter at Cidhna Mine and lived in the Warrens —a public house for the city's destitute. However, he is reluctant to talk to you, giving you a Speech challenge, which actually results in very little information. You will find out that you need to go to the Warrens and speak with Garvey.

With decent sneaking, the Dragonborn can kill him without alarming the Markarth guards. He will drop Dryston's Note , which will update the quest log when it is read.

The note can also be pickpocketed if the Dragonborn would rather not kill Dryston. Upon returning to Eltrys, the Dragonborn will receive level-dependent amount of gold for both investigating Margret's and Weylin's rooms. If evidence is discovered about Nepos or Thonar before receiving the reward, the next quest stage will be triggered without receiving the reward. Thonar is located in the Treasury House.

Talk to Rhiada , and learn that Thonar doesn't want to be disturbed; although, she can be convinced with persuasion, a bribe, or intimidation.

The door can also be opened by picking the lock. His room is to the left and then straight ahead. Once inside, Thonar is sitting at the table. He'll say something about not wanting visitors. Regardless of the response, he will tell the Dragonborn to get out. As soon as the conversation is finished, there is a commotion outside in the main room.

Thonar gets up and runs down the hall where there's fighting going on. Thonar's wife is murdered by Nana Ildene , at which point Donnel will join in the attack. Nana and Donnel are actually undercover Forsworn agents, so it's safe to kill them. At this point, talk to Thonar, and he will reveal the truth about Madanach while seething in fury at the Forsworn murdering Betrid when he had an agreement with Madanach.

Another approach involves pickpocketing Thonar's Journal from him, so his wife doesn't die, and Donnel and Nana Ildene don't attack anyone. The Dragonborn has to avoid any conversation with Thonar, as this triggers the attack. If the Dragonborn speaks to Thonar, it is not possible to save his wife; her death is scripted. Even if both Forsworn attackers are dead, she is still murdered, even though there was no one to kill her. If the Dragonborn has a high bounty, Betrid Silver-Blood and other characters will become hostile towards the Dragonborn, but this can be fixed with a basic calm spell.

The Dragonborn can bribe one of the guards to remove the bounty by being part of the Thieves Guild or having the speech ability to bribe guards.

Find evidence about Nepos by going to Nepos' house. There the Dragonborn will be greeted by a woman named Uaile telling them to go away; however, Nepos quickly calls from the background and tells her to let the Dragonborn pass.

Talk to Nepos and he will reveal the existence of the Forsworn in Markarth, his involvement with the Forsworn and that he does not plan to let the Dragonborn leave the house alive.

Make sure to exhaust all dialogue options about Madanach and his plan. After the conversation with Nepos, everyone in the house attacks the Dragonborn. An alternative, more silent and safe way, is to quickly pickpocket Nepos' Journal from Nepos instead of talking to him , and then run outside. If done correctly without being seen at all after pickpocketing the journal no one will attack the Dragonborn.

Note that there is some reasonable loot available in Nepos' house, especially in the bedroom on the right for example, there are at least five silver ingots. The residents also have good loot on them to either take after killing them or to pickpocket. Lingering too long after the theft here will result in everyone becoming hostile. Return to the Shrine of Talos to meet Eltrys, and find three guards standing over Eltrys' body.
