Where is the word infidel in the bible
A true believer is not to leave an unbelieving mate, I Corinthians Satan has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious good news of the Messiah, should shine unto them, II Corinthians True believers are not to voluntarily join, or yoke, themselves together with unbelievers, infidels, having no fellowship with unrighteousness, II Corinthians To infidels, "them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure, but even their mind and conscience is defiled," Titus The end result of being an infidel is shown in Revelation , "But the fearful, and unbelieving.
These scriptures certainly show that an "infidel" is someone who is openly rejecting the true faith, not just someone who has never heard the truth. To be "worse than an infidel" is certainly a strong indictment. The Greek word for "worse" is kiron. It is interesting to note that mainly it is used in referring to punishment, or lapsing into greater evils. Matthew refers to one who has a demon cast out of him, does nothing to grow in the truth, and receives seven new demons.
Thus, "the last state of that man is worse than the first. In our day, how true it is that "evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived," II Timothy What then, does it mean, "worse than an infidel"? From the above scriptures, it means one who has come into contact with the true faith, and fails to act upon it; is knowingly rejecting the true faith, and faces the lake of fire unless there is repentance. I Timothy tells us that when one does not provide for his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.
What does it mean, "provide for your family"? There are three important areas that men and women should keep in mind in fulfilling their religious duty of providing for their families:. The basic needs of food, clothing, and housing must be met adequately.
This may be difficult in this age we live in, with inflation, unemployment, upset weather conditions and natural disasters. If the husband especially is not a diligent worker, as well as the wife, the economic needs of the family might not be met.
As believers in the truth, it is best that we be neither rich nor poor, but merely content with the food and clothes we have, I Timothy , Philippians , concentrating instead on the work of the Master. How some believers have failed to fulfil even basic economic support of their own families is hard to understand. Some are content with just barely making ends meet with nothing left over for hard times, while others needlessly squander what they make, and do not meet their responsibilities.
My heart bleeds for such, because of what the Bible says about them. Basically, the slothful, lazy person is the same sort as the one who busily earns, and then wastes his possessions, Proverbs Providing for your family economically may include teaching your children to work, so when they are older, they will be able to support themselves.
How many situations have you seen where the father spends all his time striving for economic superiority when the children are young? All the while, the marriage is strained, and the children are allowed to grow up by themselves. These situations ought not to be so among true believers. The greatest external destroyer of the social fabric of the family is television.
Those who slavishly "tune in" to it, abandoning their family, are violating the command to provide for their family. Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark.
On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. And when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.
Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2, cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.
And the elders of the city that is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer that has never been worked and that has not pulled in a yoke. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king's expense? Or has he given us any gift? Unless otherwise indicated, all content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License.
